Well, want's this all about you're probably wondering? If you have seen me on social media this year, you will know I was working bringing A Human Project to Australia. Unfortunately, we had to make the decision to postpone the tour due to not being able to get schools to commit and book for the tour. Even though this was hugely disappointing, I still wanted to do something to help youth. When this opportunity came up, I knew I was on the right path. I started to think about what I was doing and why. It brought me full circle, back to who I am and how I got here. I don't have the resources or the qualifications to work with youth, but I can start by looking in my own back yard. What can I do locally to make a small difference for at risk youth? It took me back to a non-profit organisation who helped me when I found myself homeless at 16. NESAY is a Wangaratta based youth focused organisation, North East Support and Action for Youth, they provide youth and family welfare services to address issues of adolescence, family life and youth homelessness. http://www.nesay.com.au/who-we-are/ . I was surprised to find out that in my town, we have no youth social worker anymore, unfortunately the government funding doesn't extend that far, yet we are not without our fair share of at risk youth. That means NESAY have to use their resources to cover NE Victoria including the Alpine region. Relying on small funding, government grants and fundraising to cover a growing need for youth support.
I had already signed up to race the Spartan Beast in the Spartan Race Trifecta Weekend in Bright on the 26-27th of November, this was already a challenge for me. Then I was inspired by a 2 recent podcast interviews I did for Bumi's World on The Wellness Couch Network. One was with Brett Hillier who is running from Melbourne to Perth to raise awareness for the Bully Zero Australia Foundation, the other was Max DeLacy, CEO of Spartan Race Australia, who is the creator of the Lunges for a Cause, raising money for victims of domestic violence and youth homelessness (which tend to go hand in hand). I knew I wanted to give back in some way, I know I'm in the position now where I'm stable enough to really test myself physically and mentally. I want to do something I never thought I could do in my wildest dreams. I'm not only going to take on the Beast, I'm going to take on the Trifecta.....in one weekend. This will require me to not only push all my boundaries, but break through them, and I know this race will take me to some places I have never been before, but I want to challenge myself. I want to see how I cope under extreme physical and mental pressure and fatigue, knowing that quitting is not an option .
So how is this going to work? I am in the process of setting up a my cause fundraising page, where I will ask for donations. My goal will be $2,500 (I hope to raise as much as I possibly can) and you are only obligated to pay if I successfully complete all 3 races, the Trifecta. That's the Sprint 7km, Super 14km and the Beast 21km. I have started a you tube page to document my progress with training. I consider myself to be a casual fitness enthusiast, but this will certainly need to change if I want to get to the level I need to in order to complete to obstacles without death by burpees. I will be posting my workouts, runs and changes to my eating habits so I can prove to myself and the youth enrolled at NESAY, that I'm 100% committed to successfully completing the 3 races and raising the funds to help make a difference to the lives of youth with amazing potential and the future of my region. I will share the page for you to pledge your donation as soon as it's ready, and I kindly ask for your support.
